Hay List has ticked another box ahead of his comeback in the Challenge Stakes at Warwick Farm on Saturday, passing a vet inspection at Gosford this morning.

The classy sprinter was examined by his stable veterinarian before and after completing routine trackwork and was found to be “fit to compete” in what will be his first race in nearly 12 months.

“The stable veterinarian has reported to Racing NSW stewards and senior official veterinarian, Dr Craig Suann, that Hay List is sound and will be fit to compete in Saturday’s Group 2 Challenge Stakes at Warwick Farm,” a Racing NSW statement said.

“Trainer John McNair reported to stewards that he is monitoring a previous infection to the near hind hoof and he will advise the stewards of any change in that condition prior to Saturday.”

The seven-year-old will undergo another inspection by Racing NSW vets upon his arrival at the track for the $175,000 Group 2 sprint.

Hay List will attempt to claim his second Challenge Stakes title after winning in 2011 with Glyn Schofield aboard.

Schofield has been booked to ride this weekend but will have to overcome a back injury he aggravated at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The experienced rider will undergo treatment over the next couple of days but is confident he will be fit to assume the prized ride.

Injury has seen Hay List sidelined since his runner-up finish in the William Reid Stakes last March but bookmakers are taking no risks with the star sprinter.

The Staute Of Liberty gelding is currently at $2.50 to add a 16th win to his resume in what will be his 24th career start.
