Hay List Finally Recovers From Life-Threatening Leg Infection

Hay List

Injury plagued Hay List has been discharged from the Randwick Equine Centre

Hay List has been discharged from the Randwick Equine Centre, with veterinarians believing there is a 99% chance the infection has healed for good.

The rising six-year-old gelding will now be moved to Muskoka Farm on the Hawkesbury River at Wisemans Ferry.

Trainer John McNair is not willing to take any chances with the unlucky Hay List, who has been incapacitated with the infection since May.

”He goes up tomorrow or Friday and they’ll (Randwick Equine Centre) be keeping an eye on him on a weekly basis,” McNair said.

Hay List, who originally fell victim to the deadly colic, is believed to have developed the leg infection as a side effect from the antibiotics.

McNair said that he is thrilled that the worst seems to be over for his stable star.

”They are 99 per cent sure the infection has gone but obviously they are going to be very careful for a while,” he said.

“It is a relief because to lose a horse like him – apart from the fact it is not nice to lose a good horse – he is nice and placid, a good animal to be around.”

Hay List was destined to take part in an overseas campaign this year, however, McNair has now ruled out a return to racing for the horse until next year at the earliest.
