In BMW Caulfield Cup odds, long time favourite Hawkspur has continued to ease in the betting even though the four year old is still attracting plenty of interest for today’s Group 1 $2.5m Handicap (2400m) at Caulfield.

The barrier draw on Wednesday is still shaping the market with bookmakers willing to risk the Chris Waller trained Hawkspur who will jump from gate fourteen in the eighteen horse field following the scratching of the four emergencies.
Ladbrokes.com.au Bookmaker Operations Director Jason Scott said even though the money continues to roll in for Hawkspur, he is willing to lay the favourite and admits that if he was to win it would be their worst result.
“The rank and file have come for Hawkspur again. It’s clearly our worst without any large bets, multitudes of hundreds, two hundreds and fifty dollar bets,” Scott said.
While Hawkspur has drifted from $4.50 to $5 in the Caulfield Cup odds since the barrier draw, the David Hayes import Jet Away has firmed significantly from $12 in tot $9.50.
“Jet Away has been the best backed, $12 into $9.50. We are taking consistent money there,” Scott said.
Scott also said that Anthony Freedman’s German import Waldpark has attracted some support at long odds and has virtually halved it’s quote from $61 to $34 and would be a six figure loosing result for Ladbrokes.com.au.
Waldpark has failed to figure in the finish at three Australian starts but the step up the 2400m and a good barrier, he will jump from gate seven, are in his favour to turn his form around.
The Roger James trained Silent Achiever, to be ridden by Glen Boss, continues to firm and is now a $7.50 chance, just behind Waller’s other top fancy Royal Descent at $7.
James has Silent Achiever ready to peak today following three runs this Spring and will be given a the perfect ride by Boss from gate five.
The Kiwi mare is stepping up her pet distance according to James following her eye catching run when sixth to Happy Trails in the Group 1 $500,000 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 5.
“Silent Achiever has also been very well backed since the barrier draw. The money has really come for Silent Achiever and Jet Away since the draw, although Hawkspur has got out, it is still a nasty liability for us. But we are happy to lay it,” Scott said.
English stayer Dandino has eased in the market order after drawing an outside gate ad is now a $9 chance.
