Hartnell is one of twelve nominations for the weight for age Group 1 and will get a chance to redeem himself following his uncharacteristic performance last start when he faded in the straight to finish eighth to Winx in the Group 1 $600,000 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on February 25.

At his previous start the six year old did a good job when he was the best of the rest when second to Winx in the Group 2 $250,000 The Star Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on February 13.

While there is no Winx this week, she will be running in the Group 1 $1m George Ryder Stakes (1500m) on the same program, trainer Chris Waller has nominated his old faithful Preferment and the up and coming Antonio Giuseppe.

Preferment has failed to fire at two runs this preparation, a sixth in the Apollo Stakes and a tenth in Chipping Norton Stakes, but will appreciate the step up to the 2000m of the Ranvet Stakes while Antonio Giuseppe blotted his copy book last start when second to Tavago in the Group 3 $350,000 McGrath Sky High Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on March 11 following his first up win in the James Ruse Handicap (1500m) at Rosehill on February 18.

Victoria’s leading trainer Darren Weir has nominated the well performed Stratum Star who is coming off a last start fourth to stablemate Humidor in the Group 1 $1.5m Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington last Saturday and consistent mare Real Love who was only beaten a length and a quarter in the Group 2 $200,000 Crown Lager Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on February 25.

James Cummings has nominated Victoria Derby winner Prized Icon for the Ranvet Stakes and has also entered the three year old against his own age in the Group 1 $600,000 Sky Racing Rosehill Guineas (2000m).

Former Kiwi co-trainers and now Cranbourne based Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young have also nominated New Zealand Derby runner up Rising Red for both the Ranvet Stakes and the Rosehill Guineas.

The Lindsay Park Team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig have entered French import Harlem for the Ranvet Stakes along with Group 1 winning four year old He’s Our Rokkii.

Early market order for the Ranvet Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au: $1.85 Hartnell, $6 The United States, $7.50 Stratum Star, $8 Antonio Guiseppe, $11 Our Ivanhowe, $15 Preferment, $16 Impavido $19 Harlem, Sofia Rosa, $21 Real Love, He’s Our Rokki, $41 So Si Bon.
