Harmonium Singapore Bound In Full Voice

His wind operation was a success and now trainer Mike Moroney is hoping to have a similar result abroad with his star mount Glass Harmonium.

A horse that’s received a big following since arriving in Australia, Glass Harmonium’s spring carnival had enough up’s an downs for an entire career.

The striking grey gelding first arrived on Aussie soil for the Brisbane winter carnival where he placed in four stakes races including a win in the Eagle Farm Cup.

From there it was the Melbourne spring and his consistent results were quickly dashed with some unpredictable barrier incidents.

Things were going ok early on when he ran second in the Makybe Diva, fourth in the Underwood and second again in the Turnbull.

This got him into the Cox Plate but after missing the kick completely he was never in the running as he trailed home 10th.

He bounced back in the best possible fashion next start taking up his usual forward position and leading all the way in the Mackinnon Stakes to claim his maiden Group 1 win.

From there it was to the first Tuesday in November and the Melbourne Cup but once again he was last out of the stalls and he only managed to beat one home.

Other than confirming beyond all doubt this horse is an on pace runner and nothing else Glass Harmonium’s spring has convinced Moroney he’s worthy of the big time.

He’ll get that chance this autumn when he’s jetted overseas for the Singapore Cup after a short Aussie lead in.

“He’ll kick off in the St George (Stakes) then go to the Australian Cup and then go to Sydney,” Moroney said.

“He can run in the Queen Elizabeth (at Randwick in late April) then go to Singapore. I did the same thing with Sarrera.”

Sarrera performed credibly for Moroney that prep deadheating for second in the Queen Elizabeth before finishing sixth in a red hot Singapore Cup field.

He’ll be hoping for even more out of Glass Harmonium though, especially after a wind operation that should have him breathing a little easier.

“He seems as good as gold,” Moroney said.

Glass Harmonium has been back in work for about a month getting ready for his autumn campaign.
