The Golden Rose Stakes odds of Hallowed Crown lengthened after he drew barrier 12 on Tuesday, but jockey Hugh Bowman was able to get the son of Street Sense in a nice position towards the tail of the field in the early stages of the race.

Bowman started his run on Hallowed Crown a long way from home in the Golden Rose and he followed Scissor Kick, who was caught wide in the early stages, into the race.

Hallowed Crown did not look as though he was going to be able to get past Scissor Kick in the final 100 metres, but he dug deep in the final stages to score his maiden Group 1 victory and make it four wins from as many race starts.

The Group 1 victory was the first for Team Cummings since James Cummings and his legendary grandfather Bart Cummings entered into a training partnership just over a year ago and James was delighted with the effort of the talented colt.

“There is a great young team behind us and it is amazing that we have won Sydney’s biggest race in the spring,” Cummings said after the race.

“This horse could be anything and so much thanks not only to the staff, but all the owners that have been behind us in the changing of the business.

“That is what the good horses have got to do, they just keep on taking that step.

“We thought that he was one of the best three-year-olds in his return two-weeks ago and he had to do it again and he had to make such a sustained run in that race.

“He could be anything and I can’t wait for what we can see from him in the future.

“The world is his oyster and who knows how far he can go.”

Bowman was celebrating his third straight win at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon, after taking out the Kingston Town Stakes with He’s Your Man and the Sheraco Stakes with Catkins, and he was delighted to score another win at the highest level of racing.

The leading hoop was quick to label his mount Hallowed Crown a star, but he paid credit to the tough effort of Scissor Kick after the son of Redoute’s Choice hung on bravely for second despite being caught four wide throughout the race.

“He is star, but you have to give a lot of credit to Scissor Kick,” Bowman said.

“He did all the work and I had the advantage of that wide draw.

“I had no option, but to go forward or go back and I got a nice cart into the race.

“Take nothing away from this horse, he is a serious colt in the making and I am so grateful to be on him.

“He is a superstar in the making.

“I worked him leading up to his last start victory and I was very impressed with the horse and I rode him again this week on the better ground and he went three times as good.

“I was very confident coming in, but he needed things to pan out and they did.

“He is going to keep progressing and he is going to get better yet.”

The Group 1 victory of Hallowed Crown was the 267th win at the highest level for Bart Cummings and his first in the Golden Rose.
