Team Cummings opted to set Hallowed Crown for the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) after he took out the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 13, but they have elected to cut short the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival campaign of the Street Sense colt after he finished fourth behind Brazen Beau in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on October 4.
Co-trainer James Cummings said on his website that there was nothing wrong with Hallowed Crown, but that he and his famous grandfather Bart Cummings had decided to give the three-year-old a healthy break before bringing him back for an autumn campaign.
“The Golden Rose was the goal for Hallowed Crown this spring,” Cummings said.
“That race is very early in the spring and we achieved it.
“Anything more would have been a bonus, so we will do what is best for the colt and rest him whilst he’s in good shape.
“The stable is looking forward to his return for the autumn carnival.”
Hallowed Crown made his racing debut with a win in the Early Quaddie Plate (1150m) at the Randwick Kensington track on March 26 before he scored his maiden win at Group level with an impressive performance in the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) at Royal Randwick on April 12.
The talented colt returned to racing with a fast-finishing win in the Group 3 The Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 30 before he fought off Scissor Kick in the final stages of the Golden Rose.
While Hallowed Crown is set to miss the 2014 Coolmore Stud Stakes, the race is still set to be one of the highlights of the 2014 Melbourne Cup Carnival; with a number of talented three-year-olds set to contest the race.
Roman Consul Stakes winner Brazen Beau, Schillaci Stakes winner Rubick and talented Godolphin filly Earthquake are all set to contest the Group 1 event at Flemington on November 1, while trainer Ken Keys revealed yesterday that Caulfield Guineas runner-up Rich Enuff remains a chance of contesting the race.
The 2013 Coolmore Stud Stakes was won by Zoustar who was retired to stand at Widden Stud after just one more race start.
