Hallowed Crown was the big loser of the 2014 Golden Rose Stakes barrier draw after he was allocated barrier 14 for the Group 1 event that will be held at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Hallowed Crown recorded two wins from as many starts as a two-year-old and maintained his undefeated record with a fast-finishing victory in the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on August 30, but may need a bit of luck to win from the second widest gate this weekend.

The Street Sense colt was equal favourite in 2014 Golden Rose Stakes betting markets when the final field was released this morning, but he is out to the second line of betting after classy filly Bring Me The Maid drew ideally in barrier six.

Bring Me The Maid finished her autumn preparation with a fast-finishing third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on April 5 and returned to the races with an impressive win in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on August 23.

The Moody stable have been delighted with the improvement that Bring Me The Maid has taken coming out of the Silver Shadow Stakes and jockey Luke Nolen will have plenty of options from barrier six.

Another big winner from the Golden Rose Stakes barrier draw was Team Hawkes-trained Nostradamus, but the Medaglia D’Oro colt is still no certainty to contest the Group 1 event this weekend.

Nostradamus failed to fire on a wet track in the Run To The Rose and Wayne Hawkes revealed yesterday that the three-year-old would be included in the acceptances for both the Golden Rose Stakes and Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) and will head to Melbourne at the end of the week if the Rosehill Gardens track is still rain affected.

Gai Waterhouse-trained Almalad is another Golden Rose Stakes chance that has drawn ideally and will get a lovely run from barrier five, with her price shortening following the barrier draw.

Scratch Me Lucky (barrier two), Kumaon (barrier one), Ygritte (barrier seven) and Press Report (barrier four) also had their Golden Rose Stakes chances helped by the barrier draw.

Team Snowden-trained Shooting To Win was one of the best-backed runners in the past 24 hours, but his odds have lengthened again after he drew barrier 11, while the Golden Rose Stakes odds of Scissor Kick (barrier 12), Sniper Fire (barrier 13) and Modoc (barrier 15) have also increased following the barrier draw.

Zoustar won the 2013 Golden Rose Stakes from barrier 16, while Forensics won the 2008 edition of the race from barrier 12.
