Hall had Delicacy smoothed away in the middle of the pack before slicing through the field to score a very comfortable one and a quarter lengths win in the Group 1 $400,000 Schweppes Oaks (registered as Australasian Oaks) (2000m) at Morphettville last Saturday.

And Hall is looking to employ the same tactics in the Derby from barrier eleven in the capacity sixteen horse field.

“She has the tricky draw so I’ll have to have my wits about me,” Hall told the Sportsman.

“She travelled really well in the run last week and we were lucky to get into a good spot early, which we will have to do again.”

Hall has had plenty of opportunities to get acquainted with the West Australian filly and had ridden her on six occasions for three wins in Perth prior to the Australasian Oaks win.

“With my rides on this filly I’ve found the more I can hold her up the better turn of foot she has,” Hall said.

“What makes good horses is there acceleration and she really showed that with a good smother.”

“She’s very sound and she’s a clean winded horse.”

Delicacy is searching for a second elusive Oaks – Derby double after winning the Group 3 $250,000 Reliance Partners W.A. Oaks (2400m) and the Group 2 $400,000 Schweppes W.A.T.C. Derby (2400m) at Ascot during the Perth Autumn Racing Carnival.

Delicacy’s win in the Australasian Oaks ensured that she would be made favourite for the South Australian Derby and is currently at the top of the market order with Ladbrokes.com.au $2.70.

Melbourne three year old Manapine is next in the betting at $7 just ahead of the local hope October Date at $8.
