Popular Perth jockey Peter Hall is hoping luck is on his side as he tries to win another Group 1 on Delicacy in the Group 1 $1m Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot on Saturday.
The Grant Williams trained Delicacy has drawn the outside barrier in the sixteen horse field and Hall hasn’t made up his mind yet if he will go forward from the wide gate or take a sit near the tail of the field.
“I have watched the replays of the classic and she is either going to have to go forward or back,” Hall told The West Australian.
“The worst thing is we won’t have any cover on our outside.”
“She is not going to have any help from the outside to get us into a nice spot.”
Hall was aboard Delicacy when she collected a Group 1 double in Adelaide during the Autumn which helped her claim the Champion Three Year Old Filly of the Year Title.
Delicacy had won the Group 3 $250,000 Reliance Partners W.A. Oaks (2400m) and the Group 2 $400,000 Schweppes W.A.T.C. Derby (2400m) at Ascot during the Perth Autumn Carnival with William Pike in the saddle.
Hall was then called in to replace the injured Pike when Delicacy travelled to Adelaide to win the Group 1 $400,000 Schweppes Oaks (registered as Australasian Oaks) (2000m) and the Group 1 $500,000 South Australian Derby (2500m) at Morphettville.
Hall pointed out that Delicacy won from wide barriers in Adelaide and has faith in the Al Maher mare that she will be able to overcome the horror draw in the Kingston Town Classic.
“Her barrier is not the end of the world,” Hall said.
“I will just have to overcome that.
“With a forecast of 23C and south-westerlies blowing, it could suit the backmarkers this time.”
