Bryan Guy will saddle up two roughies in the Listed $175,000 Channel 7 Ipswich Cup (2150m) at Ipswich on Saturday but is still giving himself a rough chance of taking home the winning trophy again.

The Gold Coast trainer won last year’s Ipswich Cup with $41 outsider Anagold and this year will saddle up Dienekes and Noisy Ocean, both marked at $26 with Ladbrokes.com.au.
Guy doesn’t take much notice of the betting boards and gives both his stayers excellent chances of causing another upset after being set for the race this campaign.
“It’s the same as last year,’’ Guy told The Courier-Mail.
“We aimed at the Cup with this pair because they weren’t quite up to the better staying races over the carnival.
“I just hope history repeats.’’
Guy is also hoping he can supply his apprentice Janette Johnson with a stakes winner and the prospect of rain won’t dampen his confidence.
Johnson was aboard Dienekes when the seven year old ran second to Southerly in an 1800m BenchMark 90 Handicap at Eagle Farm on May 31 and the gelding won’t be brothered if the forecast rain arrives after having recorded wins on good and rain affected tracks.
“I would love to get a stakes win for her,’’ Guy said.
“She rode Dienekes into third in the Magic Millions Cup and she’s had sixteen rides on Regular and collected sixteen cheques, so both of them go well for her.
“If she could win one of these, it would give her a real boost because she can still claim 3kg in town.’’
Johnson has almost been a fixture on Regular, partnering the four year old at sixteen of his twenty-seven starts and will be aboard again in the Listed $175,000 City Of Ipswich Eye Liner Stakes (1350m).
Jim Byrne, who rides Ipswich extremely well, will be on Noisy Ocean and he will be praying the weather man is wrong with the five year old not recording a win on a rain affected track from nine attempts but Guy is giving him a chance if the rain stays away.
“Jim is a noted Ipswich track jockey,” Guy said.
“He has won the Cup a couple of times with clever rides.”
Noisy Ocean has been unplaced from four runs this campaign but is ready to step up to the 2150m after only being beaten two and a quarter lengths when 6th to Southerly over 1800m at Eagle Farm.
The Gerald Ryan trained Ironstein heads the Ipswich Cup market order at $4.60 but the eight year old hasn’t visited the winner’s stall since taking out the 2011 Group 3 $250,000 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2600m) at Flemington.
On the second line of betting at $6.50 is Garud from the Michael Moroney stable in front of the Tony Gollan trained Brave Ali at $7, Victorian galloper Angola at $8.50 and High Aims from the Mornington stables of David Brideoake and David Feek at $9.
