It took her 10 attempts but Chris Waller’s consistent mare Red Tracer finally broke through at Group 1 level today, scoring in dominant style in the $500,000 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

Late week rain saw the noted wet-track performer well backed and she proved the money was warranted.

Positioned in a forward position by Sydney rider Nash Rawiller, the five-year-old was unchallenged in the straight, leaving her rivals to battle for the minors as she saluted by two lengths from Streama and Floria.

The win was Waller’s ninth Group 1 win of the season and he said it couldn’t have gone to a more deserving horse.

“Everybody knows she’s been around the mark in some Good Group 1 races,” Waller said.

“There’s no horse here more deserving than her and I don’t think there would be a person here that would deny her from that.”

It marks a big end to the daughter of Dane Shadow’s campaign who also won the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes two weeks ago.

Nash Rawiller, who has five wins from five rides aboard Red Tracer, echoed the thoughts of Sydney’s premier trainer.

“She had her game face on,” Rawiller said.

“It’s a very satisfying win and there was no more deserving horse in the race.

“She’s only little but she’s just such a bulldog. I don’t think I’ve ever ridden a more deserving horse.”

The Group 1 breakthrough took Red Tracer’s record to 12 wins and 11 minor placings from 29 starts and pushed her prizemoney in excess of $1.55 million.

Boom John Thompson-trained filly Peron received plenty of support from punters but never featured in the finish, labouring in the straight to finish mid-field.

Guy Walter’s classy mare Streama picked up her second straight Group 1 placing after finishing third in the Stradbroke two weeks ago.
