Gregers Could Return In Cockram Stakes

Lindsay Park are yet to decide on the major 2015 Spring Racing Carnival goal for Gregers, but co-trainer Tom Dabernig believes that the Group 3 Cockram Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 29 could be a nice first-up option for the talented filly.

Gregers was sent to the spelling paddock after she finished a credible sixth behind Flamberge in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 16, but she is now back in work and building towards a 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign.

Dabernig said that the stable was desperate to win a Group 1 with Gregers, but he told Racing Ahead that he is not sure what race will be the target for the rising five-year-old and the stable will likely take it one start at a time with the Group 1 placegetter after she resumes in the Cockram Stakes.

“She is back in work,” Dabernig said.

“She did some even time this morning and she is great.

“She is carrying some good condition and she seems to be coming to hand nicely.

“A Group 1 is the goal with her.

“There are those nice races like the Cockram and different things, so we will take it one race at the time.

“Her ultimate goal is probably the Robert Sangster back in Adelaide looking further ahead.”

Gregers has raced at the highest level since she finished fourth behind Miracles Of Life in just her second race start in the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes, but she is yet to record a win at Group 1 level.

She won the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, but she finished third behind Guelph and May’s Dream in the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) and she was sent to the spelling paddock after she was beaten as an odds-on favourite in the Don’t Hold Back Fillies Classic (1600m) at Moonee Valley.

Gregers started her 2014 Melbourne Festival Of Racing campaign with a fourth place finish in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 22 and she finished in the top four in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m), the Group 1 Robert Sangster Classic (1200m) and The Goodwood, but was still unable to record a win.

The talented mare did not have a start at Group level in the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, but she returned to the highest level of racing when she was narrowly denied by Miracles Of Life in the Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphettville on May 2.

Gregers has recorded six wins from her 22 race starts and she has accumulated over $700,000 in prizemoney for connections.
