Trainer Tony Gollan is concerned about the forecast of more rain for Brisbane over the coming days ahead of the Group 3 George Moore Stakes at Doomben this weekend.

Gollan will be represented by both Listen Son and Spirit Of Boom in the race.

“The last thing I want for both of them is rain,” Gollan said.

The trainer will consider scratching Listen Son from the George Moore Stakes should the weather fail to improve.

“They are both better on top of the ground and if the track gets worse than slow I won’t run Listen Son,” he said.

Listen Son has had a turbulent campaign that has seen him finish 32.5 lengths last in the Group 3 Tab.com.au Stakes in Melbourne before winning the Listed Keith Noud Quality at Eagle Farm less than a month later.

Spirit Of Boom has also had a disappointing campaign, finishing ninth behind Listen Son in the Keith Noud Quality.

“Spirit Of Boom will run no matter what but I’ve been very frustrated with his two runs this campaign,” Gollan said.

“Ric (jockey McMahon) wasn’t that disappointed with his run in the Keith Noud but I thought it was very ordinary.”

Should Spirit Of Boom perform well this Saturday he may be taken to New Zealand for the Group 1 Telegraph Handicap in January.

“New Zealand is still on the cards for Spirit Of Boom but he’ll need to win on Saturday and that’s another reason why I want this rain to go away,” Gollan said.

“The prizemoney for The Telegraph is not great but he’s some chance of going over if he can win.

“But he’ll need to lift his form a hell of a lot.”
