Trainer Tony Gollan is keen to extend has Brisbane Trainer’s premiership and has four horses in the nominations for the Group 2 $200,000 SMEG Victory Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Saturday’s Gold Coast meeting will carry metropolitan status for the first day of the Queensland Winter Carnival and Gollan is giving himself plenty of changes of heading back to the winner’s stall with Alma’s Fury, Rocket To Glory, Temple Of Boom and Whiskey Allround among the fifteen nominations for the weight for age sprint.
The Gollan stable is in outstanding form with the former Toowoomba trainer saddling up a career best four winners at Doomben last Saturday week followed up by another Saturday winner last weekend.
Rocket To Glory is racing in top form with wins from his last two starts, the latest beating Victory Stakes nominated Cape Kidnappers and stablemate Whiskey Allround in the Listed $100,000 Adagold Aviation Chief De Beers Handicap (1110m) at Doomben on April 11.
While Alma’s Fury will be having his first run since finishing eleventh to Elite Belle in the Group 1 $1m Carlton Draught-Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on November 22.
Temple Of Boom went within a whisker of winning a Group 1 double during the 2014 Winter Carnival with a second to stablemate Spirit Of Boom in the $650,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1350m) at Doomben followed by a second to River Lad in the $1.36m AAMI Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) at Eagle Farm.
The eight year old will be facing off again with River Lad who is also nominated for the Victory Stakes.
Last year’s Winter Carnival star Srikandi has been nominated for two races and as well as the Victory Stakes, Caulfield trainer Ciaron Maher has entered his smart mare for the Listed $150,000 Silk Stocking (1200m).
Trainer Joe Pride has nominated Ball Of Muscle who was narrowly beaten as a short priced favourite when a first up second over 1000m at Flemington April 11 and John O’Shea has entered the well performed Knoydart.
Smart Melbourne sprinter Speediness will be resuming in the Victory Stakes and if he can find the form that saw him finish second to Trust In A Gust in the Group 1 $400,000 David Jones NBCF Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield during the 2014 Melbourne Spring Carnival, will be hard to beat.
