Capitalist proved to be the best two year old when he scored a sensational win in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill last Saturday and connections have agreed that he has done enough this campaign.

The Written Tycoon colt is a winner of four of his five starts and syndicate head James Horan said to win the Listed $150,000 Newgate Breeders’ Plate (1000m) at Randwick in October, the $2m Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast in January and the Golden Slipper was a tremendous effort.

“Capitalist is the first horse to take out the Breeders’ Plate, Magic Millions and the Golden Slipper, which is a huge effort for a two-year-old,” James Harron said.

“Along the way he has only had short freshen ups, and the time is right now for him to head out for a good break, which he does so in great order. We cannot wait for him to return and target some exciting races in the Spring.”

Co-trainer Peter Snowden, who trains in partnership with his son Paul, agrees that Capitalist has nothing more to prove as a two year old and is due for a break before returning in the Spring as three year old.

“He has done a great job the horse. He doesn’t need to prove himself anymore,” Peter Snowden told Racing Ahead.

“He has had five runs now that I am mindful of going forward as a three year old. He hasn’t been overtaxed but he has been in work quite a while, along time for different races.”

Snowden said that he would likely keep Capitalist to the sprinting distance and doubts whether he would be tested over 1600m at this stage with the Group 1 $500,000 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on the first day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival a major Spring target.

“I think he is just a sprinter. Don’t take away what he has and he has a dynamic turn of foot, but he also has good race sense. When the time come we might have to push him a bit further to get 1400m, but I think a mile would just not be his cup of tea,” Snowden said.

Last Saturday’s Golden Slipper winning cheque of $2 million took Capitalist overall earning to just over $3.5 million for his four wins and a second from five starts.
