This year’s Golden Slipper runner-up Mosheen will now be trained by Caulfield’s Robert Smerdon after spending the beginning of her career with trainer Leon Corstens.

The two-year-old filly has only had two starts in her career so far, winning her first race at Caulfield in March before a gallant second place finish behind Sepoy in the $3.5 million Golden Slipper.

Mosheen’s owner, Phil Sly, first approached John Saddler to train the filly, however he declined.

Mr Sly then went to Smerdon, who was thrilled to have Mosheen as a part of his stable.

“She has got to a high level pretty quickly,” Smerdon said.

“She won a metro race, then ran a placing in the Golden Slipper at her next start.

“It all happened pretty quickly.”

The trainer said that he was surprise when Mr Sly asked him to take on the talented filly.

“It’s an unexpected bonus,” Smerdon said.

“It came out of the blue.”

Mr Sly said that the relationship between Corstens and himself was still friendly, with the trainer harbouring no hard feelings.

“It’s all amicable between Leon and myself,” he said.

Although Mr Sly was offered a large sum of money to sell the filly, which he declined to take.

“I was offered a heck of a lot of money for her last week,” he said.

“Leon said she’s a once-in-a-lifetime horse.”
