Golden Slipper Odds Of Mossfun Continue To Fall

The Golden Slipper odds of Mossfun have plummeted all week and the Team Hawkes-trained filly has easily been the best backed runner to take out the Group 1 event at Rosehill Gardens this afternoon.

Mossfun was available at Golden Slipper odds of $4.80 last night, but the support has continued to come for the Mossman filly after the Rosehill Gardens track was graded a heavy eight by Racing New South Wales stewards this morning.

Co-trainer Michael Hawkes gave Mossfun a final trot and canter before the Golden Slipper this morning and he told Sky Racing HQ that he could not be happier with the two-year-old heading into the $3.5 million race.

“She has just done everything right since her last run and she has trained on well,” Hawkes said.

“She cantered around beautifully here this morning, with her ears pricked, and she is ready to go.”

Mossfun will jump from barrier 11 in the Golden Slipper this afternoon, alongside Earthquake after emergency Scratch Me Lucky was removed from the field, and speed mappers predict that she will get a lovely run into the race.

Hawkes said that he will leave the riding instructions up to jockey James McDonald and is confident that his star juvenile will find a comfortable position somewhere in the first half of the field.

“There is speed inside and there is speed outside,” Hawkes said.

“The best part is that she is an on-speed runner, she jumps well out of the machines and in the first 100 metres you will know where she is going.

“James has got a good affinity with her and I know that he is pretty pumped and he knows how to ride her.

“She should have a nice run, cart across and just be sitting right off the speed there.”

Racing New South Wales stewards advised after the running of the opening race that the Rosehill Gardens track rating had been amended to a heavy nine between the 900 metre and 500 metre mark; another advantage for Mossfun who showed that she can handle a wet track when she won the Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 1.

Earthquake remains favourite in betting, at Golden Slipper odds of $2.80, while there has also been support for Bring The Maid who is into $9.
