High class filly Bring Me The Maid’s odds continue to shorten for the Group 1 $1m Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on Saturday following glowing track work reports from the weekend.
Bring Me The Maid conitnues to firm in the betting for the Golden Rose Stakes at Rosehill.
Leading Melbourne trainer Peter Moody was on hand to watch his two Golden Rose Stakes contenders Bring Me The Maid and Better Land galloped together at Randwick on Saturday morning and came away satisfied that both three year olds were on target for the $1m contest.
“She and Better Land worked lovely on Saturday morning,” Moody told AAP.
“I went up and watched them work at Randwick and I’m really pleased with both of them.”
Bring Me The Maid has firmed into $4.20 with Ladbrokes.com.au after opening the day at $4.40 while Better Land has also firmed a point and is now on the third line of betting at $8.
Better Land, who was interfered with dramatically by the erratic Liberation before finishing fourth to Scissor Kick in the Group 3 $125,000 Synergy FX Up and Coming Stakes (1300m) at Randwick on August 23, is on the border line in the order of entry for the Golden Rose Stakes and Moody is sweating on the Shamardal colt sneaking into the final field when it is declared on Tuesday.
“We’ve just got to hope Better Land gets a run,” Moody said.
Bring Me The Maid stamped herself as a high quality filly as a two year old during the Sydney Autumn Carnival with a win in the Group 2 $175,000 IRT Magic Night Stakes (1200m) and then a third placing to Mossfun in the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill.
The Sebring filly then showed that she will be a force to be reckoned with over the Spring Carnival with a first up win on a heavy track in the Group 2 $175,000 Coolmore Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on August 23.
The fillies dominated during their two year old season filling the first seven placings in the Golden Slipper with Mossfun, Earthquake, Bring Me The Maid, Believe Yourself, Memorial, Oakleigh Girl and Eloping and Moody is wondering if the pattern will continue into their three year old season.
“The fillies have always had half a lap on the colts as two year olds. Is that going to be the case as three year olds? ” Moody asked the question.
The Bart and James Cummings trained colt Hallowed Crown has emerged as a strong contender for the boys along with Better Land and has cemented himself as the $4.60 second favourite following his impressive win the Group 3 $125,000 MTA NSW Run To The Rose (1200m) at Rosehill on August 30.
Other three year olds in the betting for the Golden Rose Stakes are the Team Hawkes trained Nostradamus at $9, Almalad from the Gai Waterhouse stable at $11, and the John O’Shea trained Kumaon and stablemates from the Paul Messara yard Panzer Division and Scissor Kick at $13.
