New stable acquisition Contributer scored a first up win for the John O’Shea stable with a convincing win in the Group 3 $150,000 David Jones Cup (2000m) at Caulfield today.

English galloper Contributer was only recently purchased by the by the mighty Godolphin racing empire and sent to Australia to be prepared by O’Shea.

The High Chaparral stallion showed his ability with a classy win and O’Shea plans to keep the five year old going for the Group 1 $1m Longines Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington in two weeks time.

Contributer has only been in Australia for a month and has only come out of quarantine prompting O’Shea to praise work of the staff that had prepard him at the beginning of his preparation.

“Only been with me about a month,” O’Shea said.

“To be fair I can’t take any credit. All the credit must go to the team who kept him ticking over. James and I only came down and gave him a couple of tune ups and he responded really well.”

In-form jockey James McDonald rode a quite race on the Contributrer ($7.50) and launched his run when heads were turned for home, hitting the lead at the 150m before holding off the other European import Noble Protector ($3.80 favourite) to win by a length.

Third placegetter Signoff ($5), with Glen Boss in the saddle came from worst that midfield to run his usual honest race.

The lightly raced Noble Protector was also having his first Australian start for the Robert Smerdon stable after having done all of his early racing in England
