Go Indy Go stamped herself as a filly to follow when she took out the 2014 edition of the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on April 26, but she was unable to live up to that form during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival and she was sent for a lengthy stint in the spelling paddock after she found lame following the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on November 6.

The Bernardini filly made her return to racing in the Group 3 Spring Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on August 8 and she tired in the final stages to finish eighth behind Red Eclipse, but Macdonald told Racing Ahead that he was still happy with the performance of the four-year-old in the Spring Stakes and he is confident that she has taken a great deal of benefit ahead of the Listed Penny Edition Stakes (1400m) this weekend.

“I didn’t think that it was too bad,” Macdonald said.

“She probably raced upside down a little, she raced very close to the pace and just knocked up in the last 200 metres.

“I thought the run was fair without getting carried away with it and she would probably derive great benefit from that because it was her first run for about ten months.

“The pleasing part was that she did want to begin and be close, while the previous preparation in the spring in Melbourne she just didn’t want to begin and be there.

“Maybe she is feeling a lot better than she was.

“She has come through it well and her work yesterday morning was really good.

“I am happy with the way that she has gone, but she still has to prove that she is back and do it on the track.”

Go Indy Go has been included in the nominations for both the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) that will be held at Caulfield on October 17 and the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m) that will be held at Moonee Valley a week later, but her spring campaign could be determined by how she performs in the Penny Edition Stakes on Saturday.

“If we are really looking at the sky it will probably be the Dato’ Tan Chin Nam, but if she didn’t perform up to scratch on Saturday we are probably looking at mares race,” Macdonald said.

The 2015 Penny Edition Stakes field was released this morning and Go Indy Go is set to take on the likes of Australian Guineas runner-up Alpine Eagle, Spring Stakes winner Red Eclipse, Ken Sweeney-trained Riziz and last start winning Go Dreaming.
