Go Dreaming makes it 4 wins on the trot in Port Adelaide Cup

A classic front running ride from Clare Lindop saw Go Dreaming collect his fourth win on the trot in the Listed $100,000 Port Adelaide Cup (2500m) at Morphettville today.

Go Dreaming ($7) was stepping up from restricted grade to lead all of the way to hold off the determined finish of Gamblin’ Guru ($6) with one of the outsiders of the field Clarify ($41) running on gamely for third.

Lindop and the Grant Kluske trained Go Dreaming have combined for all four recent wins which began with a victory in the Onkaparinga Cup (2150m) at Oakbank on April 4 followed by wins in two restricted class wins at Morphettville over 2020m and 2400m before today’s victory.

Lindop had no trouble finding the front in the early stages and ran the race to suit herself, slowing the pace in the middle stages before increasing the tempo from the  800m.

On the home turn the leading  Adelaide jockey had the rest of the field off the bit and when it looked like runner Gamblin’ Guru was ready to claim the lead, the  five year gelding had enough in reserve to secure a quarter of a length win.

The heavily backed favourite Zanteca was always near the tail of the field and after making a long run from the back couldn’t reel in the leaders and wound up in fourth spot.

The Darren Weir trained Zanteca was backed in on course from $2 to run the $1.85 favourite but had the punters were worried a long way from home if she could make up so much ground at the end.

The Zabeel mare had the massive following after she scored a five lengths win over 2350m at Warrnambool on May 5.
