Global Glamour has overcome a smart field of fillies to break through for a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick this afternoon.

Global Glamour was left alone in Flight Stakes betting markets this afternoon but did her chances of success no harm when she jumped from the gates well and immediately took up the pace; ensuring the race would be run at a genuine tempo.
Offered a clear racing line upon arriving at the final straight, the Star Witness filly immediately responded when asked for an extra effort by jockey Tim Clark; charging clear of her rivals and finding the line comfortably ahead of a fast-finishing Yankee Rose; Sezanne running on for third.
Clark was thrilled with Global Glamour’s performance for success in the Flight Stakes 2016 and was thrilled with repay trainers Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott for the faith they have shown in him.
“It’s been a while since I’ve been in the Group 1 winner’s stall and it’s a great feeling,” Clark said.
“The start was important today and it was a master stroke by Gai and Adrian putting the barrier blanket on her, because it kept her nice and calm.
“She began well and obviously with the small field we were able to control it. Although she was still going a little keen with it in the run, she wasn’t going that quick and it allowed her to have a great turn of foot.
When she topped the rise she quickened really well and I thought that it was going to take a good one to run me down, and thankfully she was strong enough late.
“I think this filly just hadn’t had a great deal of luck of late and just the small field, the inside barrier and getting her to jump took all the bad luck out of play.”
Waterhouse secured her ninth Flight Stakes win saddling Global Glamour to success this afternoon, but it was the first Group 1 triumph for her training partner Bott, who was thrilled with the filly’s performance for success.
“It’s absolutely incredible, I could really get used to that!” an elated Bott said after the race.
“She jumped to the front and controlled it, ran along at a good tempo and just coming over the rise, slip that little bit clear and ran strong to the line,”
“We’ve known she’s always had the ability so no surprises to see her do that today. In her last two starts she had genuine excuses and she was her own worst enemy.
“We took our time and tried to manager her correctly, and we were able to do that today.”
Global Glamour secured only her second career win in the Flight Stakes this afternoon.
