Jockey Glen Boss will ride at the Adeliade Cup meeting on Monday despite being suspended at Sandown yesterday.
Boss originally suggested that he would try to get a release from Saddler’s Story in the Group 2 $400,000 Adelaide Casino Adelaide Cup (3200m) and start his suspension at midnight on Monday, but a change of heart will see the top jockey ride at Morphettville.
He will now miss the Randwick Guineas meeting on March 17 and can resume riding on Tuesday March 20.
Boss received the suspension for careless riding in an incident at the 400m in the Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1800m) when stewards alleged he permitted his mount Buddy Amazing to shift ground causing Noel Callow on Tenno to be steadied.
Stewards took in account Boss’ guilty plea and his good riding record when handing out the seven meeting suspension .
“I just cut the margin down,” Boss told stewards.
“It didn’t cause Noel to check, he just had to stead. I don’t think it is a major incident.”
Boss was offered the Randwick Guineas ride on classy New Zealander Ocean Park who was scratched from the Group 1 NZ$750,000 Telecom New Zealand Derby (2400m) at Ellerslie last Saturday won by Silent Achiever because of the wet track.
Trainer Gary Hennessey is hoping Sydney’s wet weather clears up in the next week to give Ocean Park a chance to race on good surface and is not concerned that he had to miss the Derby run.
“I’m pleased that I kept my horse at home and now he’s set to head to Sydney with fresh legs,” Hennessey said.
Boss has a busy day Flemington on Saturday including the mounts on the Danny O’Brien trained Shopaholic in the Group 2 $300,000 Kewney Stakes (1400m) and Lone Rock in the Group 1 $1m Lexus Newmarket Handicap (1200m).
Three year old filly Shopaholic is going for her fourth win in a row since resuming this preparation and Boss has retained the mount after scoring on her in the Group 2 $180,000 D’Urban Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 25.
The Robert Smerdon trained Lone Rock is heading into the Newmarket second up after finishing fifth for Boss behind Black Caviar in the Group 1 $750,000 Coolmore Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on February 18.
