Trainer Mike Moroney is confident Glass Harmonium can reproduce his good first up form and be a force in the Carlton Draught Peter Young Stakes at Caulfield tomorrow.
Glass Harmonium hasn’t raced since finishing near the tail of the field in last year’s Emirates Melbourne Cup but is going into the 1800m Group 2 with two jumpouts under his belt.
The six year old grey has performed well for Moroney in the past with a half length second to My Kingdom Of Fife in the Group 2 $300,000 A.D. Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast on May 7 last year as well as a second to Lion Tamer in the Group 2 $300,000 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington at the beginning of his Spring campaign.
Glass Harmonium did manage to secure the Group 1 $1m Longines Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington before his failure in the Melbourne Cup but has since undergone a throat operation to correct a breathing problem.
“When we bought him out from England we threw into the Hollindale Cup over the same distance and he ran second,” Moroney said.
“The Australian Cup is his first goal and we will play it from there as to where we go. “
“We’re pretty keen to go to Sydney and then we will work it out whether we end up in Singapore or Hong Kong.
Glass Harmonium will be facing some stiff opposition in the Peter Young Stakes including Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed and the Peter Moody trained Manighar who is certain to be better suited over the 1800m after scoring a most impressive first up win for the new stable in the 1600m Group 3 $125,000 Catanach’s Jewellers Carlyon Cup at Caulfield two weeks ago.
