Ghisoni’s bad luck at the barrier draw continues in Dane Ripper Stakes

Brilliant filly Ghisoni’s bad luck at the barrier draw continued when she came up with gate fourteen in the fifteen horse field for the Group 2 $200,000 Bundaberg Rum Dane Ripper Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Ghisoni has started from the outside barrier at her last two starts for a fifth of thirteen in the Group 2 $500,000 Arrowfield 3yo Sprint (1200m) at Randwick on April 9 followed by a sensational win from barrier ten in the Group 3 $150,000 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on May 28.

James McDonald took advantage of Ghisoni’s early speed in the Glenlogan Park Stakes to sit outside of the leader before recording a slick win against the fillies and mares.

Trainer John O’Shea has plenty of faith in the Lonhro filly and can see her taking up a forward position again from her wide barrier.

“She’s drawn wide, but she’s coped with that before,” O’Shea said.

“Last start she went up and sat outside the leader and ran one of the fastest times for the 1350m they’ve seen at Doomben in 20 years. It’s never good to be drawn wide, but she has class and quality.”

Ghisoni is the winner of four of her six race starts and another bold showing in the Dane Ripper Stakes will see her line up against the fillies and mares again in the Group 1 $500,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Club Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on June 25.

Ghisoni is completely dominating the betting for the Dane Ripper Stakes and Ladbrokes.com.au have her as the short priced $1.65 favourite with the David Pfieffer trained Cradle Me the only other runner under double figures at $6.50.

Cradle Me has been placed at her last two starts when third to Clearly Innocent in the Listed $140,000 Yarraman Park – Horsepower Luskin Star Stakes (1300m) at Scone on May 14 and then chased home Ghisoni when second in the Glenlogan Park Stakes.
