Get The Nod’s Danehill Stakes Odds Lengthen

The 2014 Danehill Stakes odds of the undefeated Get The Nod have lengthened since the final field was released on Wednesday and the talented gelding is out to $8 to win the Group 2 event at Flemington on Saturday.

Get The Nod opened as equal favourite in Danehill Stakes betting markets at a quote of $6, along with Brazen Beau, but there has been little support for the son of US Ranger, while Brazen Beau is now a clear favourite at $4.20.

Get The Nod stamped himself as a horse to watch when he sat wide throughout the Group 3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 16 before racing away to record an impressive win and trainer Lloyd Kennewell told Racing Ahead that he has been happy with the progress the three-year-old has made heading into the Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) this weekend.

“He is coming along really well,” Kennewell said.

“He galloped really well Tuesday morning at Flemington, Mark Zahra had his first ride on him and was quiet impressed with what he had underneath him.”

The Danehill Stakes has drawn a strong field of 15 runners, following the scratching of Nostradamus this morning, and Get The Nod will jump from the inside barrier with Mark Zahra on his back.

Kennewell said that he was not pleased to draw barrier one with Get The Nod, but he is hopeful that the impressive first-up winner has the talent to overcome the poor draw and maintain his unbeaten record.

“I am, but there is not much we can do about it,” Kennewell said when asked if he was concerned about the barrier draw.

“It is probably the one barrier that we didn’t want to draw, but obviously we got it.

“I am just going to have a walk of the track this afternoon and come up with a game plan to offset barrier one.

“I will leave it to game day and just access it as it comes, but there looks to be good speed in the race and I’m sure if he is good enough he will get into the right spot and still get the chocolates.”

Get The Nod is now on the fourth line of the Danehill Stakes betting market at Ladbrokes, with Brazen Beau ($4.20) a clear favourite from Rich Enuff, who has been backed into Danehill Stakes odds of $6 and Galaxy Pegasus ($7).
