Gerald Again Prominent In 2YO Feature Race

Gerald Ryan has been the most conspicuous trainer in the two year old ranks so far this year with multiple runners performing well across the east coast.

He presented one of the favourites, Amorino, at the Gold Coast Magic Millions and he’ll again be represented in restricted company tomorrow, this time with Cavalry Rose at the Inglis Classic.

Ryan says it wasn’t an exact plan to feature so heavily in juvenile races this year but they’re ready to go so why not have a crack.

“It’s all about the two year olds at the moment, got a few in work so you’ve got to have a crack,” he said.

As for his chances in the $250,000 feature like many Ryan can’t get a good grasp on the form.

“It’s hard to line them up, there’s form lines from everywhere and there’s first starters,” he said.

“It’s hard to line them up, however the fittest and the soundest will win I suppose.”

That begs the question is his horse fit enough and sound enough? Well she’s only had the one trial but she won it by four lengths.

It was on the Rosehill track too so there’s plenty to like about this filly, especially from gate one.

“She’s done very well, jumped out of the ground, about six weeks ago she wasn’t showing much at all,” he said.

“Her trial was very good, didn’t run a  fantastic time but she ran very well.”

That trial was over 900m though so the step up to 1200m could be a test.

“I think the biggest danger with her is running a strong 1200m really,” he said.

“I’d prefer to just take a sit and help her run the journey, I think there’ll be a bit of pressure on up front.”

Later on the card Ryan will also have the in form Rosie’s Reward running in the ATC Handicap over 1200m.

The mare has won her last two impressively but has a huge task ahead of her tomorrow after being given a massive 62kg weight.

“She’s had six start for me and hasn’t run bad,” Ryan said.

“She’s done well, six weeks between runs.

“She puts herself in the race and gives herself every possible chance, she doesn’t know how to lay down.”

That could be an important attribute tomorrow given she’s the toppy but the 2kg claim from Adam Hyeronimus will take a bit of that pressure off.
