Geelong Classic Ideal for Pretty Punk

South Australian trainer Leon Macdonald is confident that Pretty Punk will continue her impressive run of form through this afternoon’s Group 3 Geelong Classic (2200m) and subsequently earn a start in the Crown Oaks (2500m) on November 3rd.

Pretty Punk clearly required a run when she finished fourth in the Coopers Vintage Ale Maiden (1204m) first-up on August 17th, but responded well for second in the Taylors Wines Maiden (1200m) a fortnight later.

Breaking through for her first race win in the David Dridan Maiden Plate (1400m) on September 16th, the Rebel Raider filly made a successful transition to black type racing with a comfortable two length win in the Listed Hill Smith Stakes (1800m) last time out on October 8th.

Pretty Punk has noticeably improved each time she has stepped up in distance and Macdonald is confident that Geelong Classic 2016 figures as an ideal lead-in race for the filly to the Crown Oaks.

“When she stepped up to 1400 metres she won by eight lengths and over 1800 in the stakes race she came from behind and blew them away,” Macdonald told AAP.

“She ran home quicker than the sprinters on the day.

“I think over 2200 metres she will be very hard to beat.

“The Vase at Moonee Valley looked a stronger race and the Wakeful on Derby day comes after the late acceptances are taken.

“If she wins the Geelong Classic she pays her own way in.”

Debuting to racing for fourth in the Ubet Adelaide Cup Handicap (1000m) at the Morphettville Parks course on February 27th, Pretty Punk again placed fourth amongst classy company in the Nadeem Handicap (1100m) on March 12th, before being returned to the paddock with a view towards Spring Carnival targets.

Pretty Punk will leave from the ideal barrier 6 in the Geelong Classic 2016 following scratchings, and has been confirmed to be partnered by Caulfield Cup winner jockey Nick Hall.

Pretty Punk is currently available at 2016 Geelong Classic odds of $4 with online bookmaker Ladbrokes Australia.
