Just seven days after claiming her first Listed level victory, Gai’s Choice will step up to the elite level in Saturday’s Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

The David Pfieffer-trained mare produced a remarkable victory when getting to the back of the field before flying home to win the Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich on the weekend.

A daughter of General Nediym, the four-year-old has scored three consecutive victories and Pfieffer is confident the time is right to chase Group 1 success.

“The way she won at Ipswich, the Tiara is the right step to take,” Pfieffer said.

Pfieffer said the talented sprinter had pulled up well following Saturday’s victory and is not concerned by the seven-day turnaround.

Gai’s Choice has only raced on consecutive weekends once in her career for a a disappointing eighth but Pfieffer believes she is a different horse now.

“It was when she was a three-year-old and the race was on a wet track,” Pfieffer said.

Gai’s Choice will have to again improve to continue her winning streak this weekend with plenty of quality included in a 23-horse Tattersall’s Tiara nominations list.

Headlining the list is Peter Moody-trained mare Mid Summer Music who is fresh off a surprise win in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap on June 9.

The Oamaru Force six-year-old stormed home as a $26.00 outsider to beat Queensland star Buffering by nearly two lengths.

Also nominated is talented filly Soft Sand who will be stepping up to Group 1 racing for the first time and boasts a promising early career record of four wins from seven starts.

The Dansili three-year-old has not raced since May 26 but produced a solid barrier trial hit-out last week under the watchful eye of trainer Colin Little.

Other horses set to start in the Tattersall’s Tiara include New Zealand-bred filly Shopaholic, Stradbroke starter Varenna Miss and Dane Ripper Stakes winner Red Tracer.
