Emerging star Full Peal is expected to forgo a trip to Western Australia to contest the Group 2 Perth Cup on New Year’s Eve in favour of a run in Sydney.

Co-trainer Symon Wilde will now aim Pull Peal at the Summer Cup at Rosehill later in the month.

The $125,000 Summer Cup will be ridden at Rosehill for the first time this year due to the refurbishments that are currently taking place at Randwick.

Wilde said while a final decision was yet to be made, he was in favour of the shorter Sydney race distance.

“I’ve got to talk to the owners, but my preference would be the shorter travel to Sydney,” Wilde said.

Full Peal has experienced a spectacular rise to fame that has seen him go from winning restricted to open class handicaps in the same preparation.

The five-year-old gelding has won all five of his previous race starts, with his most recent win being in the $70,000 Zouki Western Health Cup at Flemington last Saturday.

“He’s only won two 0-89s and I think Sydney might be the easier step to open company,” Wilde said.

Wilde is not concerned about Full Peal tackling the other way of going in Sydney after spending his entire career  competing in Victoria.

“They work both ways at home and I don’t think it’s as important with stayers,” he said.

Full Peal has now won seven of his 14 race starts and has earned more than $120,000 in prize money.

The Clangalang gelding will be having his first taste of Group competition when he lines up for the Group 3 Summer Cup on Boxing Day.

This preparation has been a complete form turn around for Full Peal, who won just one of his six race starts in his autumn campaign.

The horse’s last defeat was when finishing third first-up in 1,200 metre Handicap at Terang on October 4 this year.
