Star international galloper Frankel is set to make his return from injury in the JLT Lockinge Stakes at Newbury racecourse in Britain this Saturday.

The four-year-old entire, who is currently unbeaten after nine race starts, fell victim to a rare injury at the beginning of last month and has been unable to compete since.

While his future was initially in doubt, Frankel is now ready to tackle the tenth race start of his career.

Trainer Sir Henry Cecil is confident that Frankel, who is currently the world’s highest rated racehorse, will be back to his best for this Saturday’s race start.

However, he will face a tough task when he lines up against impressive galloper Excelebration this Saturday.

Excelebration’s trainer Aiden O’Brien feels that his horse is a worthy JLT Lockinge Stakes contender.

“He’s fine. He’s a very relaxed horse and good enough to compete,” O’Brien said.

“(Previous trainer) Marco Botti did a great job with him, but he’s a year older and has strengthened up.

“It will be interesting taking on Frankel and if you know his achilles heel, I wish you’d let me know!”

Ex-Australian So You Think is also included in the JLT Lockinge Stakes nominations, however, O’Brien does not expect him to compete.

“We gave him a bit of a break after Dubai and we’ll wait a bit longer with him,” he said.

“He’ll probably run in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh (on May 27).”

This weekend may be some of the toughest competition Frankel is given the honour of facing, after connections confirmed he is not on a path to clash with Australia’s top sprinter Black Caviar when she travels to England this June.

Black Caviar will contest the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and possibly the July Cup, while Frankel’s targets remain as the Queen Anne Stakes and Prince Of Wales Stakes.
