The Golden Slipper claimed a victim to injury last Saturday, with the well supported Foxwedge sustaining an injury to his near-foreleg during the race.

The young colt appeared to lose his action during his home straight run in the Slipper and pulled up lame after the race.

“He’s got a bit of trouble with an origin of suspensory (strain),” said Foxwedge’s trainer John O’Shea.

“It was evident in the straight he was a little bit uncomfortable.”

Foxwedge will be sent to Randwick Equine Centre to ascertain the amount of damage the young horse has suffered.

“He’s going for some analysis today at Randwick Equine and that will determine the period of time he needs out,” said O’Shea.

“I think he should be right to come back for the later part of the spring.”

O’Shea is disappointed that his star colt has experienced such an injury in the prime of his preparation.

“Physically he’s all right, he’s just struggling a little bit with his near-fore and hopefully we can rectify it over the next day or so,” he said.

“It’s disappointing to get this far and then have something go amiss there, but he’ll be OK.”
