The Chris Waller trained Foxplay is the early favourite for the Group 2 $175,000 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Foxplay has drawn nicely at barrier four in the eleven horse field and is chasing her second win in Group 2 company after scoring an upset win in the $175,000 Fitzy & Wippa’s Fast & Furious Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on September 3.
Hugh Bowman rode the Foxwedge filly to victory in the Furious Stakes and keeps the ride on the $2.80 favourite in the Tea Rose Stakes.
Waller’s other runners in the Tea Rose Stakes are $8.50 chance Sezanne and Awoke who is marked at $11 with Ladbrokes.com.au.
Craig Williams takes the mount on Sezanne who has drawn barrier eight while Awoke will jump from gate six with Brenton Avdulla to ride.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Global Glamour was well beaten by Foxplay when third in the Furious Stakes and gets her chance to turn the tables after drawing a handy gate at three with Tommy Berry in the saddle again.
Waterhouse said that Global Glamour has come through her first up third in fine style and expects a lot of improvement second up in similar company.
“She is a very exciting filly. She has come on since her first-up run,” Waterhouse said.
The Gary Moore trained Bacarella split Foxplay and Global Glamour in the Furious Stakes and the three fillies are set to clash again this Saturday in the Tea Rose Stakes.
The Beneteau filly has Tim Clark in the saddle again and has drawn the pole position.
Quick Feet from the Team Snowden stable will race with the winkers again and will jump from barrier five with Kerrin McEvoy retaining the ride after the pair finished sixth in the Furious Stakes.
Trainer John O’Shea has opted to put the blinkers on Chipanda hoping for an improvement on her last start seventh in the Furious Stakes.
The Sepoy filly has drawn the outside gate with stable rider James McDonald to ride again.
