Anacheeva has been retired from racing

Peter Moody’s impressive four-year-old Anacheeva has been retired to stud and will not compete in this Saturday’s Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley.

The decision came after the Anabaa entire finished a disappointing 11th last start in the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield behind Moody’s other runner King’s Rose.

However, despite the unfavourable finish in the Memsie Stakes, Moody had continued to considered Anacheeva’s chances to be high in the upcoming spring racing carnival.

“He just got away on me a bit before the Memsie. He’s trained on really well since,” Moody had said earlier in the week.

Anacheeva had also been nominated for this year’s $3 million Cox Plate, $2.5 million Caulfield Cup and $6 million Melbourne Cup.

Anacheeva won four of his 12 race starts during his career, including the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude and the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas as a three-year-old.

The horse has been retired with just shy of $1 million in total prize money.
