Speedy filly Formality will take a lot of improvement into Saturday’s Group 2 $200,000 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Randwick following her first up win over the same course and distance two weeks ago.
Formality, with Furious Stakes jockey Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle, was able to lead all of the way in the Group 2 $200,000 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) and hold on to beat Alizee by a nose with same margin to the third placegetter Champagne Cuddles.
The Lindsay Park trained filly is set to clash again with Alizee and Champagne Cuddles in the Furious Stakes and co-trainer David Hayes said that the Fastnet Rock filly will strip in better condition with that first up run under her belt.
“I think she has really trained on and improved,” Hayes said.
“It is a similar race to last time and it will be a really competitive race again and I know our filly second up will be much better than she was first up.”
Formality had the advantage of the inside gate in the Silver Shadow Stakes but will have to jump from barrier six in the seven horse Furious Stakes field while Alizee, with High Bowman in the saddle, has drawn the rails this week after having the outside gate last start.
The Bjorn Baker trained Champagne Cuddles suffered her first defeat from three starts when third in the Silver Shadow Stakes and will have to overcome the outside barrier in the Furious Stakes with Tye Angland in the saddle again.
There is very little between the trio in the betting for the Furious Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au with Champagne Cuddles holding a slight advantage at $3.10 over Alizee at $3.40 and Formality at $3.50.
