Form Turnaround Necessary For You’re Canny In Heritage Stakes

You’re Canny will attempt to secure his first victory since winning the Listed Black Opal Stakes last preparation when he runs in the Listed Heritage Stakes at Rosehill this weekend.

Trainer Gratz Vella believes the three-year-old had improves since his tenth place finish in Canberra first-up last month.

“He has trained on well since his run at Canberra and everything is going pretty well with him,” Vella said.

“He had a trial at Queanbeyan two weeks ago which he won by two lengths and he did everything right.

“He didn’t have a lot go his way at Canberra where he missed the start and was wide most the trip and I also don’t think he handled the synthetic track at all.

“He hasn’t been concentrating in the barriers when I gave him a couple jump-outs so the trial was more to correct that after missing the start at Canberra.”

You’re Canny will meet Karuta Queen for the first time since the Black Opal in the race and Vella has booked Canberra jockey Brendan Ward for the ride.

“The owners wanted someone who will stick with us and the interstate jockeys will ride them one day and not the next so we will stick with one jockey and see what happens,” Vella said.

“Brendan has been riding him in work and also rode him in the barrier trial and has been very happy.

“This race will no doubt help us determine where he will go this prep and what he can do as well.”
