Forgotten Beaded Sneaking Up On Brisbane

Beaded is one of the gutsiest horses running around in Australia and her performances continue to surprise despite her impressive career record.

When Peter Snowden first started to train her he told the owners if they were to win a maiden they should be content with that, but how quickly that changed.

She’s now a genuine Group 1 contender and this weekend in the Doomben 10,000 she’s one of the horses most likely to threaten Hay List.

As usual she’s avoided a lot of the spotlight going into the race but when they hit the line you can be sure she won’t be far away.

“She’s had a little bit of time off, had a nice trial last Tuesday week at Rosehill which I’m happy about,” Snowden said.

The Doomben 10,000 isn’t her major goal during the Brisbane Winter Carnival but no matter what stage she is during her prep she’ll be trying her hardest on the day.

“Her two main targets are the Stradbroke and the Winter Stakes,” he said.

“She’s always super competitive and the trial suggested to me she’s probably a little bit more further along than I thought.”

She’s a fairly versatile horse but prefers to get back a bit with cover and come at them around the bend.

From her gate she’ll pick up that position easy enough but it’ll all depend on the race tempo out in front.

“She’s probably going to be three pairs back one out,” he said.

Hay List could be extremely hard to beat if he gets his own way out in front.”

Whatever the result though Snowden knows if she doesn’t win it won’t be for a lack of effort.

“This filly she puts in 120 percent every time she goes out,” he said.

While not yet at the level of Beaded Snowden has another interesting horse running at the moment by the name of Peck.

His last start was over as it began after playing up in the barriers missing the start by multiple lengths.

Snowden is prepared to write that one off though and is confident he can deliver on his ability.

“He’s settled in extremely well, his works been really really good,” he said.

“He’s promised a bit but he needs to deliver now.”

He also says that there will be no radical attempts made to try and counteract the barrier issues because it could do more harm than good.

“Sometimes you try and fix a problem that’s only minor and you create another one,” he said.

“I don’t think it’s going to be an issue.”
