Foreteller To Bounce Back In The BMW

Trainer Chris Waller is hoping that Foreteller can bounce back to his best form when he contests the 2014 The BMW at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Foreteller is chasing his first race win since he took out the Makybe Diva Stakes during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival.

Foreteller was one of the most consistent performers at weight-for-age level during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, scoring an impressive win in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m), and started his autumn campaign well before finishing a disappointing eighth in the Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 22.

Waller told TVN that he has put a line through Foreteller’s run in Ranvet Stakes and is confident that the Dansili gelding can be competitive when he takes on a strong field in The BMW this weekend.

“It was a different sort of race and it didn’t really suit him,” Waller said.

“I am putting a line through that run and going back to his consistent form, which would see him very competitive in this race.

“Hopefully it is run a little bit differently to suit him.”

Waller will have two runners in the 2014 edition of The BMW; with imported Brigantin set to join Foreteller in the field for the Group 1 event.

Brigantin will be making his Group 1 debut in Australia and Waller admits that it is a tough assignment for the Cozzene entire in The BMW, after he finish sixth in the Group 3 Sky High Stakes (1900m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 22, but the leading Sydney trainer believes that the seven-year-old is on track to perform well in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) at Royal Randwick on April 19.

“It was a very good run,” Waller said.

“He needs a truer run race, which he will get on Saturday in The BMW.

“Obviously it is a big step-up in class, but it is the perfect lead-up into the Sydney Cup.

“It means they don’t have to back up from The Chairman’s a week later into the Sydney cup and they can have two weeks.”

Moriarty and Hawkspur were originally included in the nominations for the 2014 The BMW, but neither will contest the race; with Hawkspur saved for the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Royal Randwick next Saturday and Moriarty to drop back in class to contest the Group 3 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens.

Waller is chasing his first win in The BMW after missing the placings with Kelinni, Foreteller and Gatewood in last year’s race and finishing fourth with Hawk Island in 2011 and sixth in 2012.
