Fixation is currently available at the lengthy 2015 Magic Millions Guineas odds of $41, but trainer Tony Gollan believes that the gelding will perform better than his price suggests in the $1 million event at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Fixation stamped himself as a horse to watch when he recorded an impressive win in the Listed Breakfast Creek Hotel Stakes (1400m) during the 2014 Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, but has failed to fire in his three race starts as a three-year-old and he finished outside the top ten in the Gallopers Sports Club Handicap (1110m) on November 8, the Courier Mail Members Handicap (1200m) on November 22 and the King Long Australia Handicap (1350m) on December 6.

Gollan said that Fixation does not perform at his best at Doomben and he is confident that the Jet Spur gelding can return to a semblance of his best form when he contests the 2015 Magic Millions Guineas on the more suitable Gold Coast track this weekend.

“He is really good,” Gollan told Racing Ahead.

“I elected not to run him on the heavy track there the other day.

“He has been a bit of a victim of having to race at Doomben every week because he is probably more of an Eagle Farm horse.

“He is nice and fresh in the legs and if he gets the right run he will certainly race better than what his odds have been.”

Fixation was included in the acceptances for the Sky International Handicap (1615m) at Doomben on December 20, but Gollan elected not to run the three-year-old and he was scratched from the Listed Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) at the Gold Coast on December 27, which means he has not had a race start for over a month.

Gollan is confident that the lack of racing in the past month is not an issue for Fixation and he believes the freshness is actually a positive for the gelding heading into the Magic Millions Guineas.

“I elected not to run him on the heavy track there the other day,” Gollan said.

“His work has been really good.

“I think that the quiet weeks have kept him nice and sharp for the 1400.

“In time he is a horse that will get further, so I think the space between runs is a bonus not a negative.”

Gollan has four runners in the 2015 Magic Millions Guineas field and Fixation will be joined in the race by stablemates Hijack Hussy, Vienna Royale and Yeager.
