The Wakeful Stakes is traditionally the final lead up run for fillies heading towards the Group 1 $1m Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington five days later.

But the three fillies at the at the top of the Crown Oaks market order at Ladbrokes.com.au, Sacred Eye ($3.20), Jameka ($3.80) and Pasadena Girl ($7) are missing from the Wakeful Stakes field.

The Clarry Conners trained Dawnie Perfect is the next in the Crown Oaks betting at $7.50 and will take her place in the Wakeful Stakes with Jim Cassidy to ride.

Cassidy will be able to give Dawnie Perfect a cossie run from barrier four and the daughter of Big Brown will have a great chance to repeat her winning effort in the Group 3 $150,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Ethereal Stakes (2000m) at Caulfield on October 17.

Topweight My Poppette has also drawn nicely at gate two with Dwayne Dunn in the saddle but trainer Robert Smerdon said that the filly won’t be going around in the Crown Oaks.

“She has a lot ahead of her,” Smerdon said after My Poppette won the Group 2 $200,000 Alliance Broking Services Fillies Classic (1600m) at Moonee Valley on October 24.

“She is a sound filly with a lot of ability and I think after a break she will be an even better filly.”

The John Sadler trained Bengal Cat ran a much improved race at her second run this campaign when second to My Poppette in the Fillies Classic at Moonee Valley and has Caulfield Cup winning jockey Opie Bosson in the saddle.

Bengal Cat has drawn mid field at barrier seven and Bosson will be looking to slot in behind the leaders in the run to the first turn.

Ambience is still in Crown Oaks contention and will be carrying the Godolphin blue in the Wakeful Stakes and will jump from gate three with James McDonald to ride.

McDonald has ridden the Street Cry filly at her last two starts for a win in the Listed $100,000 TAB Dulcify Quality (1600m) at Randwick on October 3 followed by a third to Dawnie Perfect in the Ethereal Stakes.

The all-conquering Chris Waller stable will be represented with Bannatyne who has drawn awkwardly at barrier eleven with Blake Shinn in the saddle.

Bannatyne stepped up to Stakes company for the first time last start and wasn’t disgraced when fourth, after leading, to Dawnie Perfect in the Ethereal Stakes.

Cox Plate winning jockey Hugh Bowman will be aboard Adelaide filly Beluga Blue who will be having her first run outside of her home state.

Co-trainers Leon McDonald and Andrew Gluyas decided to give Beluga Blue her chance at the Melbourne Spring Carnival after the Lookin At Lucky filly, with Clare Lindop in the saddle, won the Listed $100,000 Hill Smith Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on October 10.

Bowman will be able to give Beluga Blue the perfect run from barrier one.
