William Inglis had purchased one of the twelve slots for the inaugural running of The Everest and the Matt Dale trained Fell Swoop was selected to represent them from a number of contenders.

“We opened up expressions of interest for the Inglis slot back in March and received significant feedback from prospective owners, so this certainly wasn’t an easy decision,” Inglis Managing Director Mark Webster told Racenet.

“In Fell Swoop we believe we have a genuine winning chance trained by one of Australia’s best young trainers in Matt Dale and a horse who is proven as a legitimate Group I performer.

“To have finished in the minor placings in the last two editions of the Group I TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick behind Chautauqua – as well as a further three Group I placings throughout his career to date – Fell Swoop is undoubtedly one of the best credentialed runners in the race.”

While Fell Swoop is yet to win at Group 1 level, he has been placed on five different occasions at the highest level, including a second and a third to Chautauqua in the last two runnings of the Group 1 $2.5m Darley T J Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick during the 2016 and 2017 Sydney Autumn Carnivals.

Canberra trainer Matt Dale is very excited to have Fell Swoop confirmed to fill a slot in The Everest and the rising six year old will join confirmed runners Chautauqua, She Will Reign and Houtzen.

“It’s a very exciting concept and it’s unbelievable to be a part of it in year one with a horse like Fell Swoop,” Dale said.

“We’re privileged to join forces with Inglis to secure an Everest slot in the inaugural running of the race.

“The horse spelled really well in Queensland and has now entered pre-training at Aquagait.

“He’ll come back into the stables in a couple of weeks and then it’s all systems go toward the Everest.”

The Team Hawkes trained Chautauqua has been installed the early favourite for The Everest at $4.80 at Ladbrokes.com.au while Fell Swoop has been marked as a $21 chance.

Early market order for the 2017 The Everest at Ladbrokes.com.au: $4.80 Chautauqua, $7 She Will Reign, $8 Winx, $11 Lady Aurelia, Caravaggio, Russian Revolution, $13 English, $15 Houtzen, Spieth, Vega Magic, $21 Fell Swoop, $26 Acapulco, Black Heart Bart, Lankan Rupee, Limato, Mecca’s Angel, Redzel, Terravista, $34 or better the rest.
