Fast ‘N’ Rocking Can Win Hall Mark Stakes

Fast ‘N’ Rocking is currently available at 2015 Hall Mark Stakes odds of $14, but co-trainer David Hayes believes that the talented sprinter is a genuine winning chance in the Group 3 event at Royal Randwick this weekend.

Fast ‘N’ Rocking went to another level during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival after being gelded and he has performed without winning at the highest level of racing during his autumn campaign.

The Fastnet Rock gelding started his autumn preparation with an unlucky third place finish behind It Is Written in the Listed Abell Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on February 6 and he stormed home late to finish an impressive third in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 28.

Fast ‘N’ Rocking made the trip to Sydney for the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 21 and once again hit the line strongly to finish fourth behind Sweet Idea and he was not disgraced when sixth behind Chautauqua in the Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on April 6.

Hayes believes that Fast ‘N’ Rocking could have finished much closer to Chautauqua if the T.J. Smith Stakes had not been run on such a wet track and he is confident that the four-year-old will finish in the placings in the Hall Mark Stakes – as long as the Royal Randwick track is not hit by the showers that are forecast on Friday.

“If the track is dry he is going to be very hard to beat and is a great each-way chance,” Hayes said.

“He has been racing very well in Sydney and D Dunn thought that if it was dry he would have been right on the back of the winner of the T.J. Smith Chautauqua.”

The Hayes and Dabernig stable are desperate to win a Group 1 event with Fast ‘N’ Rocking and they confirmed that the gelding will continue to race on this preparation if he performs well in the Hall Mark Stakes.

A trip to Brisbane for races like the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben on May 9, the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) on May 23 and the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on June 6 is on the agenda for Fast ‘N’ Rocking or he could be sent to Adelaide for the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 16.

Hayes has never won a Group 1 event in Queensland, but had success in Adelaide with Anamato in the 2007 edition of the Australasian Oaks.
