Co-trainer Tom Dabernig is keen on the chances of Fast ‘N’ Rocking who will be having his first run back since running fourth to Black Heart Bart in the Group 1 $500,000 Darley Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 21.
“Fast `N’ Rocking has got a very good fresh Caulfield record and he seems to be working really well,” Dabernig, who trains in partnership with David Hayes, told AAP.
“He ran well up in Sydney and then we ran him in the Goodwood in Adelaide and he’s basically stayed in work and had a bit of a freshen-up at the farm at Euroa.”
While Fast ‘N’ Rocking will be dropping in class, stablemate Kayjay’s Joy will be facing similar grade after finishing fifth to Runway Star in the Group 3 $120,000 Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on May 21.
“She’s hasn’t been able to get black type at this stage so that’s what we’re chasing with her,” Dabernig said.
“I think she’s going as well as she ever has and I just love her record at Caulfield. This will be her toughest test to date. She’s been working through her classes and Adelaide was no real guide because she had a torrid run.
“Without seeing the field or barriers, I think if she ran to her best she’s definitely going to be competitive.”
Top Melbourne jockey Dwayne Dunn has been booked to ride Fast ‘N’ Rocking while his son, in-form apprentice Dylan Dunn will be aboard Kayjay’s Joy.
Melbourne’s premiership winning trainer Darren Weir has nominated three for the Sir John Monash Stakes, Mirage, Olivier and last start winner Thermal Current.
Weir is bringing Thermal Current back to town after the former Peter Moody trained gelding won the $100,000 Golden Topaz (1200m) at Swan Hill on June 10.
Another Moody cast off Weinholt will be having his first start for Mornington trainer David Brideoake in the Sir John Monash Stakes after the five year old spent some time in Queensland under the care of Eagle Farm trainer Desleigh Forster.
Weinholt will be facing the starter for the first time since running third to Whiskey Allround in the Listed $100,000 Falvelon Handicap (12000m) at Doomben on February 13.
Trainer Robbie Laing’s Group 1 placegetter Lord Of The Sky is also among the nominations for the Sir John Monash Stakes and will be resuming from a short break after finishing last of fourteen behind Griante in the Group 1 $700,000 Banjo Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill on March 19.
