Fast ‘N’ Rocking A Chance To Cause Manikato Stakes Boilover

Fast ‘N’ Rocking is currently available at 2015 Manikato Stakes odds of $26, but the training partnership of David Hayes and Tom Dabernig both believe that the tough sprinter is capable of recording an upset win in the Group 1 event at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Fast ‘N’ Rocking started his 2015 Spring Racing Carnival campaign with a fast-finishing fifth in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on August 15 and he produced similar efforts in the Listed The Cup Club Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on September 5 and the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on September 26 before he returned to winning form with a dominant win in the Listed Caulfield Village (1200m) on October 14.

Hayes admits that Fast ‘N’ Rocking faces a very tough assignment in the Manikato Stakes, but he believes that the Fastnet Rock gelding is deserving of an opportunity against the likes of Chautauqua, Terravista and Buffering.

“He runs in the Manikato,” Hayes said.

“He probably has to run a career best, but he is Group 1 placed twice.

“He is a horse that high pressure races suit and that is what it is going to be on Friday night.

“He is in great form.”

Fast ‘N’ Rocking has been given a number of opportunities at the highest level of racing since he made his debut back in October of 2012, but he is still chasing a maiden Group 1 victory.

He finished second behind Miracles Of Life in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in 2013 as a two-year-old and he performed well without winning in both the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) and the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m), but he was unable to replicate that form as a three-year-old and he produced flat efforts in both the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) and the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m).

Fast ‘N’ Rocking was off the Group 1 scene for almost a year, but a gelding operation turned his career around and he finished a fast-finishing third in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) earlier this year before running well in the Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m), Group 1 T.J. Smith Stakes (1200m) and Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m).

Fast ‘N’ Rocking is currently available at 2015 Manikato Stakes odds of $26, while Chautauqua ($2.05) remains a clear favourite from Terravista ($6), Srikandi ($6.50) and Buffering ($7.50).
