Farley Happy For Sincero To Walk The Tightrope

Sincero is one of the most interesting horses in Australia at the moment after going six in a row and looking like a major contender for the Brisbane carnival.

He’s the clear favourite on early Stradbroke Handicap  betting markets despite languishing in 41st on the order of entry.

In fact to even make the field Sincero effectively has to win his next start, anything less would be a failure.

“He won’t run in the 10,000, at this stage the QTC Cup is our goal,” trainer Steve Farley said.

“He’d have to win the QTC Cup to warrant going to the Stradbroke.”

It seem very strange that punters have shown so much faith in a horse with his predicament but it’s testament to the quality that he’s shown in his previous runs.

If he doesn’t make the Stradbroke he’ll drop down to the  Queensland Guineas on the same day.

The Group 1 is the plan though and a major factor giving punters confidence is the feather weight.

Sincero qualifies for the bottom weight of just 49.5kgs giving him a big advantage over some of the other chances.

“That’s going to be a very nice weight,” Farley said.

There’s no concerns about his form either and all news coming out of the camp is very positive.

“He’s very good, bright as a button and he’s really picked up his condition,” he said.

The task of keeping him at top form isn’t overly difficult for Farley who says most of the work is done by the horse.

“He improves with the racing and he doesn’t do a lot of track work either,” he said.

“Just keep him happy and he puts in his best.”

Sincero is coming off an easy last start victory at Scone with regular rider Chris O’Brien

“When I legged him up I said you ride him like he’s the best horse in the race,” Farley said.

Unfortunately though O’Brien won’t be able to make such a small weight in Brisbane so the job could go to Glen Boss.

“I just spoke to his (Glen Boss) manger this morning, my gut feeling is that it would be good for him to have a feel of the horse before the Stradbroke,” he said.

“It’s disappointing for Chris but we’ve got to do what’s best for the horse.”

The QTC Cup is just a week before the Stradbroke and Sincero would create history if he could complete the double.
