Trainer Noel Mayfield-Smith has been quick to recover travelling expenses after Famous Seamus was also a winner last start at Eagle Farm two weeks ago.

“He has done very well up here and in fact he has done a lot better than when in Melbourne last year,” Mayfield-Smith said.

Winning jockey Glen Colless was also on board at Eagle Farm and rode another well judged race to hold off the fast finishing River Lad and the grey Fire Up Fifi.

“He showed a lot of fight when they came at him in the final 100m,” Colless said.

The Hawkesbury trainer has been racing Famous Seamus ($7)  in stronger company over the Autumn and included a third to Bello in the Group 3 $125,000 Enviropacific Newmarket Handicap (1400m) at Newcastle on March 20.

And the four year old wasn’t that far away when fifth to Havana Rey in the Group 2 $175,000 Hyland Race Colours Ajax Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on March 30.

The Natalie McCall trained River Lad ($11) is also racing in top form and went doen narrowly after coming from a long way back in the straight.

River Lad  was only beaten a length when third to Famous Seamus at Eagle Farm following wins at Eagle Farm and the Gold Coast.

The followers of Mahisara who backed him from $8 to $5 in the ring, were feeling happy with themselves after Jim Cassidy had the four year old travelling sweetly out in front and but after skipping away in the straight was overwhelmed at the finish and wind up in fourth spot.
