Japanese stayer Fame Game is currently available at 2015 Melbourne Cup odds of $4 and he is a clear favourite in betting for the Group 1 event that will be held at Flemington on November 3.

Fame Game has been at the top of Melbourne Cup betting markets since connections confirmed that he would make the trip to Australia for the 2015 Spring Racing Carnival, but his odds tightened up significantly following his performance in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on October 17.

The Heart’s Cry entire did not find clear running until the final stages of the Caulfield Cup, but he absolutely savaged the line when he was produced by jockey Zac Purton, in a perfect Melbourne Cup trial.

Trip To Paris was another horse whose Melbourne Cup odds were slashed after the Caulfield Cup and he is currently on the second line of betting at a quote of $4.50.

The Ascot Gold Cup winner was thought to be too dour to be competitive in the Caulfield Cup and he started the race at the lengthy odds of $31, but he showed an impressive turn-of-foot in the final stages of the race to finish a close second behind Mongolian Khan.

Mongolian Khan himself is the only other horse that is available at single figure Melbourne Cup odds and he is priced at $8 to become the first horse since Ethereal to complete the Caulfield Cup/Melbourne Cup double.

There is a big gap to the horses on the fourth line of the Melbourne Cup betting market with Ladbrokes following the release of the second acceptances and there are an incredible nine horses that are priced at either $15 or $17.

Amralah stamped himself as a Melbourne Cup contender with his impressive win in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m) at Caulfield on October 10 and he is into $15 along with Cox Plate runner-up Criterion, Lonsdale Cup winner Max Dynamite, last year’s Melbourne Cup placegetter Who Shot Thebarman and Turnbull Stakes winner Preferment.

Almoonqith has now secured a position in the Melbourne Cup after he was awarded a penalty for his win in the Group 3 Geelong Cup (2400m) last weekend and he is into $17 along with Aidan O’Brien-trained Bondi Beach ($17), Japanese stayer Hokko Brave ($17), Caulfield Cup runner-up Our Ivanhowe ($17) and Juddmonte-owned Snow Sky ($17).

Veteran stayer Red Cadeaux has finished second in three of the past four editions of the Melbourne Cup, but there has been little support for the popular galloper to go one better in 2015 and he is currently available at $26.
