Faatinah skims outside rail to win Bobbie Lewis Quality

Apprentice Regan Bayliss had no worries skimming the outside rail down the Flemington straight to steer Faatinah to a conclusive first up win in the Group 2 $200,000 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) today.

The Lindsay Park trained Faatinah ($5.50) was having his first start since running fifth against the older horses in the Group 1 $500,000 Darley Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 21 and produced the form that co-trainer David Hayes believed he had.

At his previous run Faatinah took out the Group 2 $250,000 Euclase Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

“He was in front so far from home, 1200m first up, he is a strong good sprinter,” Hayes said.

“In the Autumn he might measure up against the best.”

“He beat some good Group 1 performers today and he had been working like a Group 1 horse.”

Faatinah had one and three quarter lengths to spare over Tavaci ($12) with We’ve Got This ($13) in third spot just ahead of the $5 favourite Under The Louvre.

Hayes said that he would keep Faatinah to the sprinting distances and look to the Group 2 $200,000 Gilgai Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Derby as his next target.

“Right now I will do what’s working,” Hayes said.

“We will probably target a similar race here at Flemington on Derby day.”
