Extreme Choice on Track for Moir Stakes Return

Trainer Mick Price is thrilled with the continually-building condition of boom colt Extreme Choice, in the lead-up to a likely return in the Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley on September 30th.

A standout amongst the crop of 2016 Autumn Carnival two-year-olds, Extreme Choice justified her clear and resounding favouritism with a two-length win in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 27th, but returned to the paddock after finishing eighth in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) on March 19th.

Price was pleased with the effort mustered by the Not A Single Doubt colt in a hit-out at Moonee Valley on Tuesday morning, and believes he is primed for a smart Spring Carnival preparation set to kick off in the Moir Stakes 2016.

“He went really well,” Price told Racing Ahead.

“He worked with Le Bonsir who is a good Moonee Valley horse. They had a nice half-mile gallop and ran 53.11 for the half-mile.

“He was good, he wasn’t out there to have a hard gallop but it was probably the most work I’ve done with him in a gallop.

“I was happy with that, the horse enjoyed himself and is a bit stimulated by it all which is what we want, because he’s got a busy September in front of him.

“I think it’s a big ask (Moir Stakes) because we could probably run him in lesser races, but it’s all about trying to improve his value at stud and I think he’d be a nice Moonee Valley horse.

“He’ll be pretty cherry-ripe first-up, and then I think it’s twelve days into the Blue Sapphire here at Caulfield, and then the Coolmore.”

Trialling well in the lead-up to his competitive debut, Extreme Choice immediately stamped himself as a colt to follow with a dominant win in the Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Randwick on December 12th; resuming in 2016 for a near-five length win in the Group 3 Chairman’s Stakes (1000m) on February 6th, in what was his only other start prior to the Blue Diamond Stakes.

The 2016 Moir Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday September 28th.
